About Uma

At the age of 20, Uma's search for a shaman led her into an Asian jungle ravine where she entered 7 years of secluded one-on-one or 'gurukul' training. She lived and studied daily with her teacher for 14 years, a reclusive yogi with a natural talent for all things supernatural. Uma was initiated into the kundalini awakening practice of Yoga as sadhana, as a means of liberation.

Without access to modern medicine, dependent primarily on Yoga, meditation and herbs, Uma lived a simple life of self care. Her own significant healing compelled her to pursue a practice of traditional medicine in America, where she graduated from the American Institute of Ayurveda. Uma expanded her appreciation of India's ancient medicinal systems with the generous guidance of Dr Raam Pandey, a Siddha alchemist and a renowned practitioner of Kayakalpa, "the legendary system of total body rejuvenation".

In the States, she trained further with international pioneers of Ashtanga and Vinyasa Yoga, and more intensively with tantrik teachers schooled in Satyanada Saraswati’s Bihar Yoga tradition.

Uma has been teaching Yoga internationally for over 20 years, specializing in the key energetics of a transformative & therapeutic practice. Her own teaching style draws significantly from the primordial teachings and oral transmission of Tantra, the mother of Yoga.

With a lifelong passion for the devotional arts & sciences of her ancestral land, India, Uma leads workshops & teacher trainings which integrate traditional principles into a modern yogic lifestyle.
